Explore Winter Carbide™ ProductsEvery hour spent in the shop swapping blades is an hour you're not on the road. Every blade that wears out before the season ends is money you didn't plan to spend. You shouldn't have to pick between a blade that works and a budget that works.
Steel edges wear out in weeks. Carbide inserts crack when they hit covers or frost heaves — and you're left replacing blades ahead of schedule with material still on them.

Steel edges wear out in weeks. Carbide inserts crack when they hit covers or frost heaves — and you're left replacing blades ahead of schedule with material still on them.

And underneath it all is the part that's hardest to talk about — you already know this cycle isn't going to fix itself. Same blades. Same costs. Same results. Year after year.
If nothing changes, next season looks just like this one.
When your edges hold up, everything gets better. Your trucks stay out. Your budget stays flat. And you stop thinking about blades at all.
Edges that last for seasons, not weeks. You change blades on your schedule, not mid-storm. Carbide, abrasion-resistant steel, and PlowGuards spread the wear evenly — so nothing goes to waste.
Fewer blade changes means more trucks on the road. Less shop time. More plow time. Genesee County, New York cut their blade changes from 6 per year to just 1.
Your costs stay steady. No rush orders. No blown budgets. Sublette County, Wyoming saved $6,500 per truck after they switched. Yes, our systems cost more upfront. The crews that do the math keep coming back.
We've been in this industry for 35 years, and we've heard the same story from fleet managers and contractors across the country — blades that don't hold up, budgets that don't hold together, and a shop that never slows down.

It started when our founder Kent Winter noticed that the ends of a plow blade always wore faster than the middle — forcing operators to change blades before all the steel was used.

He sketched the first PlowGuard on a cocktail napkin, built a prototype with graph paper and popsicle sticks, and manufactured the first production run in his garage. Every product we've made since has the same goal:
keep you on the road longer.
They ran standard blades on their fleet. The problem: they were changing blades up to 6 times a year. Each change pulled a truck off the road, tied up shop staff, and cost hours they couldn't get back.
They switched to the RoadMAXX® and BlockBuster® systems. The result: just 1 blade change all season — a 3x increase in wear life. They converted their entire fleet to Winter Equipment.
